At First Christian Church of North Kansas City we firmly believe that every member of our congregation is called to be a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For some, this takes the form of simply offering a faithful witness to the love and power of Christ wherever and whenever you encounter the opportunity. Other individuals and families offer important volunteer services in our church and in our community of faith. Some people serve and contribute as part-time members of our staff and a few folks serve as full-time employees of the church to ensure that our ministries are perpetuated with intentionality and excellence.

Listed below are the members of our compensated ministerial, administrative and maintenance staff:

Minister
Pastor Carla Hillyer - JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING

Rev.  Carla Hillyer began her ministry in 1992 serving as a licensed pastor at her home church in Nichols, Iowa.  She has pastored two other churches in Iowa before coming to North Kansas City, Mo.  She graduated with a BA degree in Psychology, including a minor in religion, from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.  She earned a Master of Divinity from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, and was ordained as a Disciples of Christ minster in 1997.

Pastor Carla encourages people to develop an intimate relationship with Jesus through personal Bible study and prayer.  She also believes that most spiritual growth happens in small group settings.  She enjoys facilitating Bible discussion groups.

Pastor Carla depends upon the Holy Spirit to flow through her for all the ministry she does in Jesus’ name.  Seeking to be guided by the Holy Spirit, she wants to continue to deepen her own relationship with the Lord.

The church’s mission today, Pastor Carla feels, is to fulfill the Great Commission by reaching out to all people.  We must love and care about the physical and emotional needs of others.  Through such caring we can minister to spiritual needs through introducing people to the Jesus we know and love.
